The case of the former head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, Mykola Romanchuk, will be reviewed again, according to the media.

Starting from January 2025, hearings regarding Mykola Romanchuk, the former deputy head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, are set to resume.

This information was reported by “Nikcenter”.

In 2016, the former deputy head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, Mykola Romanchuk, was detained while allegedly receiving a bribe.

This case was a high-profile corruption scandal in the Mykolaiv region. However, it has been under judicial review for over five years. The defendant has denied his guilt and claimed that the case was fabricated. According to Mykola Romanchuk, the military prosecutor's office orchestrated the fabrication because he had previously denied the institution permission for illegal land use in Shyrlany.

Initially, the defendant faced a prison sentence ranging from 8 to 12 years with asset confiscation. However, during the trial, the charges were significantly reduced, leading the prosecution to seek a fine of 1,500 tax-exempt minimums for the former deputy head of the Regional State Administration.

Ultimately, Mykola Romanchuk did not receive even that penalty. In 2021, the Central District Court of Mykolaiv acquitted the official and returned his bail and seized property. Since then, the military prosecutor's office has contested the ruling. Although the appeal was accepted, the Cassation Court ordered a new review of the case. According to the registry, hearings in the appellate court are expected to resume in January 2025. Nevertheless, the case has been ongoing for nine years without a fair verdict.

Mykola Romanchuk served as the head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration from March to July 2014. On July 28, he was appointed the first deputy head of the regional state administration (at that time, Vadym Merikov held the position). He was suspended from his position on June 3, 2016, due to his arrest for accepting a bribe.
