The name of the fallen soldier from Mykolaiv, Alexey Slyushchenko, who served in the 123rd Territorial Defense Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was projected onto the "Motherland" monument during President Volodymyr Zelensky's New Year address.

«This year, Volodymyr Zelensky recorded his New Year greeting against the backdrop of the "Motherland" monument. The monument was illuminated in blue and yellow, and the names of fallen Heroes were projected onto it. Among the many names was that of our brigade’s soldier, Mykolaiv resident Alexey Slyushchenko — a world champion in powerlifting», — the message states.

Alexey Slyushchenko was a multiple champion of Ukraine in powerlifting and the 2012 world champion. He also became the champion of Ukraine in bodybuilding in 2018 and worked as a coach in sports clubs in Mykolaiv.
Alexey participated in the liberation of Mykolaiv and Kherson regions from Russian invaders, as well as in the defense of the "Kulbakino" airfield.
On June 5, 2023, while carrying out a combat mission on the islands of Kherson region, Alexey Slyushchenko was fatally wounded. He is survived by his wife and young daughter.
