The Armed Forces of Ukraine have initiated a new counteroffensive in the Kursk region, advancing five kilometers into the area within a day.

This is reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) in their report dated February 6.

"Ukrainian troops commenced a new series of battalion mechanized attacks in the Kursk region and advanced up to five kilometers into Russian positions southeast of Suja on February 6," the report states.

Analysts explained that geolocation footage indicates the Ukrainian army has moved southwest of Makhnovka and to the north and east of Cherkasskaya Konopelka along the 38K-028 Suja-Oboyan highway.

Additionally, according to ISW, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have captured the Kolmakov hamlet and the Fansyeevka locality in the Kursk region.

At the same time, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that Ukrainian troops attacked in multiple waves towards Cherkasskaya Konopelka and Ulanok, utilizing armored vehicles with forces comprising up to two mechanized battalions, and that Russian forces repelled the attack.

One Russian military blogger also claimed that Ukrainian forces seized Cherkasskaya Konopelka, while some Russian sources asserted that Ukrainian forces broke through to the village of Ulanok or even captured it.

"ISW has not yet seen geolocation evidence that would confirm that Ukrainian forces are operating in Ulanok," the report states.

The ISW also noted that they currently have no reason to assert that Ukraine is active near the village of Kruglennoye, as claimed by some Russian military bloggers.

The Institute highlighted that the main Russian forces currently defending against Ukrainian attacks southeast of Suja consist of units from the Russian 11th Airborne Brigade, the 810th Marine Brigade (Black Sea Fleet), the 30th Motorized Rifle Regiment (72nd Motorized Rifle Division of the 44th Army Corps of the Leningrad Military District), the 177th Marine Regiment (Caspian Flotilla), as well as Chechen drone operators from "Akhmat".
