In Poland, there are proposals to penalize for "propaganda of OUN and UPA": this could be equated with Nazism
A bill has been registered in the Polish parliament that proposes introducing criminal penalties for the promotion of the ideologies of OUN and UPA. These ideologies will be equated with Nazi, communist, and fascist ideologies.
The initiative has been put forward by representatives of the Law and Justice party and includes amendments to the Polish Penal Code. This was reported by 24 Channel citing Ukrainian MP Volodymyr Vyatrovych and "European Truth" .
According to the bill, it is proposed to add to the article on punishments for public promotion of Nazism, communism, fascism, or other totalitarian regimes, the phrase: "as well as the ideology of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists, Bandera faction (OUN-B) and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), which led to genocide in Volhynia and neighboring regions in 1943-1945."
The document explains that the aim of the changes is to prevent the glorification of OUN-B and UPA, as well as to stop the spread of what the initiators believe to be the current denial in Ukraine of the genocide committed by OUN-B and UPA. The authors accuse OUN-B of collaborating with the Third Reich and of exterminating Polish, Jewish, Czech, Slovak, Armenian, and even Ukrainian populations.
The explanatory note mentions statements by former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, who allegedly equated the Volhynian tragedy, referred to in Poland as the Volhynian massacre, with the Vistula operation and called parts of Polish territory Ukrainian during his visit to Poland.
The authors of the bill also express outrage at the public glorification of OUN-B and UPA in Poland, "where speeches are made and songs are sung praising the criminals of OUN-B and UPA, particularly Stepan Bandera."
"Poles, particularly the descendants of those brutally killed in Volhynia, Lublin region, and other areas, sheltered millions of refugees fleeing from death from Russian bombs and missiles, as well as from the brutal behavior of Putin's troops," – it is stated in the document.
Vyatrovych called the initiative an attempt to condemn Ukraine's struggle for independence, which is significant not only for Ukraine but also for Poland.
