"Novosti-N" previously reported on the incident at Bashanskaya School No. 1: a drunken man without a shirt was grabbing a student, and it later emerged that he had been drinking alcohol with the school principal in his office.
A few days after the publication, the victims reached out to the editorial office – a 9th-grade student, Nazar Gudz, and his father.
According to Nazar, it all began when he and two of his classmates were walking down the school corridor and spotted a man who was shirtless. He was using foul language while speaking to the physical education teacher.
- We decided to bypass them and head towards the school exit, - says Nazar. - The half-naked man grabbed my arm and started dragging me to the principal's office. I resisted, but he didn’t react.
The man did not explain why he was dragging the boy to the principal's office. All they heard from him was swearing and curses.
- The physical education teacher told him: "That's a student! Don’t touch him!" The man turned his attention to him, and I managed to break free. In the yard, by the school entrance, I called my father and told him what had happened. When he arrived, we went into the school and headed to the principal's office. Near the teachers' lounge, in the corridor beside the principal's office, we saw the half-naked man entering the restroom and closing the door behind him. We started calling the police, but the line was busy, and we couldn’t get through. That man was banging on the restroom doors, then he came out. He approached us, or rather, my father. A conflict started between them, the man began to push my father. Meanwhile, we were all heading to the principal's office to resolve the situation. We didn’t yet know that the principal was involved in all of this, - the boy recounts.
Upon entering the reception area, they saw the secretary and the principal waving papers – they were trying to disperse the tobacco smoke that filled the room. Besides the smell of smoke, there was a distinct odor of alcohol in the office. The door to the principal's office was closed. The newcomers asked the principal what was happening. He replied that everything was fine, "this has happened before," urging them to calm down and not make noise.
At that moment, the half-naked man approached from behind and again attacked the boy's father. A scuffle broke out in the reception area. The school principal tried to separate the fighting parties but was unsuccessful.
The half-naked man was clearly looking for a fight, and to protect themselves, the father and son closed the door and held it shut to prevent the aggressive troublemaker from getting out. He began to kick the door from the inside, witnessed by other students and their homeroom teacher. At that moment, the boy managed to call the police.
When the police entered the reception area, the boy's father peeked in as well. He saw the half-naked man sitting there while the principal helped him get dressed. From his appearance, he was so drunk that he could no longer dress himself.
Shortly after, Nazar saw the police tackling the man to the floor and putting handcuffs on him, as he was behaving erratically. They then led him to the police car.
According to Nazar, the principal was also intoxicated – he had a red face, slurred speech, he was unsteady on his feet, and there was a strong smell of alcohol coming from him.
The next day, Nazar and his father went to see the principal to discuss what had happened.
- He started fabricating a story that this (the half-naked man, - ed.) was a soldier, a decent person, a father of three children. The smell of alcohol from him was from the previous day. He asked to "leave everything as is" and not to disclose anything.
At that point, there was basically nothing left to disclose: the incident was already being discussed not only throughout the school but the entire city.
It turned out that the attacker, with whom the principal had been drinking in his office that day – a certain Baranenko – was a construction worker who was repairing the school roof. The principal explained why the worker was in the school without a shirt: he had gone downstairs to get water, spilled it on himself, and thus took off his clothes.
Nazar's account was fully corroborated by his father, Gennady Viktorovich Gudz.
- When my son called me, I quickly got dressed and ran to the school, - recounts Gennady Viktorovich. - When this "naked" man came out of the restroom, I asked him: "Why were you bothering my son? What did you want from him?" He was drunk and immediately tried to fight me. The man wouldn’t calm down, so I headed to the principal, hoping he would somehow influence the situation – after all, this is an educational institution. I opened the door, and he was sitting there drunk. Drunk as a skunk!..
The shirtless man also dashed into the office and began provoking the boy's father into a fight.
- A scuffle broke out. I said: "Nazar, get out!" He darted out, I pushed them towards the window, I also managed to get out and held the door, while he started kicking it, - recalls the father indignantly. - If we hadn’t held that door then, I don’t know what would have happened. He could have grabbed a knife. He was out of control… After he was taken away and then released by the police, he came back to the school and started asking who called the police, where "those" people lived, because "now I have problems" and I need to settle this with them. He was openly threatening…
After the incident, Nazar had to go to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, for which he underwent a course of treatment. Additionally, the boy was recommended to seek psychological help. He is currently being monitored by a neurologist.
After the incident itself, as we previously reported, the police discovered a bottle of vodka, shot glasses, and snacks on the principal's desk. After interviewing witnesses and participants of the incident, the police drew up two reports – against Baranenko under Article 173 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses (committing petty hooliganism), and against the principal of the lyceum, Alexander Babin, under Article 179 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses (drinking alcohol at the workplace or being at the workplace in a state of intoxication). Both reports were sent to the administrative commission of the Bashansk City Council.
After the information about the incident gained wide resonance in Bashanka, a number of deputies demanded that the city's mayor, Alexander Beregovoy, dismiss Alexander Babin from his position.

To find out if there would be any reaction from the city authorities to the high-profile incident, we approached Alexander Beregovoy directly. The mayor stated that the investigation into the incident is still ongoing, but Alexander Babin has already been dismissed from his position as principal of School No. 1. According to Beregovoy, the principal was already of retirement age, so he submitted his resignation voluntarily – to ensure that "certain pro-Russian individuals do not escalate or inflate the situation."
