Trump's advisor suggested that Russia won't be completely expelled from Ukraine
The war between Russia and Ukraine may end through diplomatic means. A ceasefire could be the first step towards this.
This was stated by Mike Waltz, the future national security advisor to elected U.S. President Donald Trump, as reported by RBK Ukraine, citing his interview with ABC News.
The incoming advisor emphasized that a ceasefire is a crucial step that will enable both parties to move towards a negotiated solution.
"Well, we would like to see a ceasefire at any moment, on any day. I think that would be a positive - incredibly positive first step from both sides. And it would allow us to enter into a framework of a certain type of negotiated solution," he pointed out.
According to him, a diplomatic resolution to the conflict is inevitable, although the complete expulsion of Russian troops, especially from Crimea, is considered unrealistic.
"Everyone knows this has to end in some diplomatic way. I just don't think it's realistic to say we're going to drive every Russian out of every inch of Ukrainian land, even from Crimea. President Trump has acknowledged this reality," Waltz emphasized.
He also highlighted the importance of preventing further escalation, which could have global repercussions.
"We are already seeing North Korea; we see, you know, grumbling from South Korea. This thing can expand, and that is something we need to stop," the advisor stressed.
