Sale of the tram substation in Mykolaiv: city deputies refuse to buy a city symbol

Members of the Mykolaiv City Council do not support the purchase of one of the city’s most significant symbols - the first tram substation, which is why this issue was not brought up for consideration during the session.

This was reported by the secretary of the city council, Dmytro Falko, during a broadcast of the "Dialogue" program.

According to him, consultations were held by phone with the deputies prior to the session. The results showed that no more than 10 deputies support the idea of purchasing the building of the first tram substation with budget funds.

- We conducted preliminary consultations... If it were to be included in the agenda as a draft decision, it would require amending the budget to allocate funds. However, before giving the finance department the relevant directive, we consulted with the deputies — a so-called phone survey — to gauge their opinions. No more than 10 people expressed support for the purchase of this facility. The majority of the council did not back this idea. Therefore, there is really nothing to discuss. And, accordingly, what would be the point of developing a draft decision that clearly wouldn’t have the support of at least 25-26-27 deputies? - said the secretary of the city council.

Furthermore, Dmytro Falko stated that he personally opposes this proposal.

- Personally, I also spoke against this purchase. Right now, there are priorities for spending: supporting the armed forces, acquiring specific equipment for the Armed Forces, which we are doing on a regular basis. We also have unresolved issues in the housing and communal services sector. Therefore, we did not discuss this matter any further, - summarized Dmytro Falko.

As previously reported, the building of the first tram substation, located in the center of Mykolaiv, has undergone over a century of changes and has become a hallmark of the city. Once, it supplied trams with electricity, then it was used as a café and even a bank. Currently, the building is vacant. It was put up for auction on February 7, 2025.
