Residents of the city of Mykolaiv are reporting packs of aggressive stray dogs that are attacking random passersby as well as domestic pets.
This was communicated by citizens on the Contact Center page of the Mykolaiv City Council on the social media platform Facebook.
Specifically, Andriy Shynkarenko mentioned that large packs of aggressive stray dogs are roaming the area of the Levanivskyi residential complex. According to him, the animals are aggressive towards people, children, and small pet dogs. He is also concerned that these animals may contract rabies, as reported by the State Consumer Protection Service.
“I am writing due to the difficult situation with stray dogs in the territory of the Levanivskyi residential complex! Large packs of aggressive stray dogs, numbering between 7 to 15 per pack, are running around, attacking people, children, and domestic dogs. There is constant barking in the yard both day and night! The situation is complicated by the fact that the packs hide in a secured area that is impossible to access without permission from the city administration! The animal protection center helped with the sterilization of one of the least aggressive packs, but unfortunately, this did not significantly change the situation, and sadly, after their return from sterilization, they were poisoned. Irresponsible neighbors continued to feed the dogs, and when they were confronted, people began to threaten and become aggressive. While more food is being provided for these aggressive strays daily, their numbers in the yard are increasing, and since most of the dogs are not sterilized, there will soon be more puppies in the packs! In light of the news about rabies outbreaks in the city and region, the situation could become critically dangerous! Without intervention from the city administration, unfortunately, there seems to be no resolution in sight!” - the message stated.
Many Mykolaiv residents supported this publication. Among them was city resident Oleksandr Tesliuk, who mentioned that he had previously reported dog attacks near the "Tavria" supermarket on Kuznechnaya Street.
Additionally, resident Liubov Chernova from the Ingul district spoke about a pack of dogs at the market at the intersection of Yuzhna Street and Bohoyavlensky Avenue.
“There are similar packs at the Yuzhnyi market. The dogs have tags, but they still attack people, vehicles, cyclists, and anyone on mopeds who are defenseless. Vendors at the market have built shelters for them and feed them, but they bear no responsibility!
It's a nightmare! The dogs are protecting their territory and their 'benefactors.'
When confronted, the vendors say, 'Don't walk here if you don't like it!' At the market! Don't walk here!'” - the woman wrote.
It should be noted that among the commentators were residents who defended the stray animals. They advised those complaining about aggressive dogs not to yell at the animals, not to think negatively about them, to write fewer complaints to the Contact Center, and to avoid confronting the dogs.
