The Mirgorod District Court of the Poltava region sentenced a serviceman to imprisonment for desertion and unauthorized abandonment of service.

According to the Unified State Register of Judicial Decisions, the accused, a native of Kyiv, was mobilized and served as a grenade launcher in a security unit.
The first instance of unauthorized absence from the unit occurred on March 16, 2024. The soldier explained his actions by stating he believed the military medical commission (MMC) had incorrectly assessed his health condition. After leaving, he sought clarification of his diagnosis from medical facilities but was denied inpatient treatment. Despite this, the man voluntarily returned to duty on April 11.

While in service, he reported facing issues: allegedly, the command incited other servicemen to use physical force against him. To protect himself, he called the police and military law enforcement. As a result, he was sent to the Mirgorod hospital for an intoxication check.

Shortly after this, the soldier decided to flee to Kyiv and did not return to his unit. On May 27, 2024, he was apprehended by the State Bureau of Investigation. Since his arrest, he has been in custody.

The Mirgorod District Court found the man guilty and sentenced him to 5 years and 1 month of imprisonment. The sentence can be appealed within 30 days from the date it was announced.
