The film You Are Cosmos directed by Pavlo Ostrikov has been awarded at the Festival Européen du Film Fantastique de Strasbourg

The film received the festival's top honor — Golden Octopus, as well as the Silver Melies award, which paves the way for competing for the most prestigious prize in European genre films — Golden Melies, reports Derzhkino.

The world premiere of the film  “You Are Cosmos” took place as part of the Discovery program at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). In 2020, the film project was one of the winners of the 14th competitive selection by Derzhkino.

For the shooting, complex sets were created in the pavilions of the State Enterprise “National Film Archive of Ukraine,” along with an animatronic robot that moved independently on screen, and concepts for the spaceship and interiors to depict all cosmic scenes in a truly “cosmic” manner.

“You Are Cosmos” is a science fiction tragicomedy about a Ukrainian truck driver, Andriy, who, after the explosion of Earth, remains the only living being in the Universe. A connection is established with him by a French scientist, Catherine, and they decide to fly towards each other despite the vast distance.

The lead role was played by Volodymyr Kravchuk, now a serviceman in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, while his partner was the robot Maksym, voiced by Leonid Popadyk, also a military personnel.

The film was created with the support of the State Agency of Ukraine for Film, produced by Fore Films, in co-production with Ukraine and Belgium. The film is set to be released in Ukrainian theaters in the spring of 2025.

Pavlo Ostrikov is a 34-year-old director and producer, a debutant with several successful short films under his belt — notably, his “Graduation '97” won an award at the 70th Locarno International Film Festival in 2017 for Best Short Film.

Ostrikov graduated from the Kyiv Aviation University, holding a degree in law.
