Zelensky commented on the partners' call to lower the conscription age
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine has "received a signal" from its partners regarding the reduction of the conscription age. However, he explained that the focus should first be on the technological advancement of the military.
He shared this in an interview with Le Parisien.
"Our conscription age is set at 25. We have heard signals from some leaders suggesting, 'let's lower the conscription age.' I believe that this is not an honest conversation today. I have stated this both publicly and privately. It’s simply not fair. Modern warfare is different," - emphasized Zelensky.
According to the head of state, modern warfare involves not only "sitting in trenches" but also the use of drones, artillery, long-range weapons, and aviation.
"Without air cover, how can you storm and advance? And the leaders know this. That’s why there are such political games. Of course, the younger a person is, the physically stronger they tend to be. But it is very important for me to preserve the lives of our people, to protect the lives of our youth. Therefore, it is crucial to focus primarily on the technological capabilities of the army, rather than the age of the military," - added Zelensky.
At that moment, Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that the authorities are not preparing to lower the conscription age at this time.
