The Return of Historical Names: The Cabinet has Decided to Rename 22 Geographical Objects in Crimea

The Cabinet of Ministers has issued a resolution to rename 22 geographical objects in the temporarily occupied Crimea.

Most of these will restore historical Crimean Tatar names, reports the Representation of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

Changes to the names will include:

  • the area of Avrorovka to  the area of Bashbek ;
  • the ravine of Artemovka to  the ravine of Toka ;
  • the area of Bagrationovo to  the area of Konrat ;
  • the river Vorontsovka to  the river Kuchuk-Chatyrlik ;
  • the railway station Kirovskoe to  the railway station Islyam-Terek ;
  • the Krasnogvardeysky Canal to  the Kurmansky Canal, with its Krasnogvardeyskoye branch renamed to Kurmanskoye branch;
  • the railway station Krasnopartizansk to  the railway station Borangar ;
  • the railway station Krasnoperekopsk to  the railway station Yany Kapu ;
  • the railway station Krasnoflotskoe to  the railway station Ichki ;
  • the area of Krasnoflotskoe to  the area of Kainash ;
  • the Kutuzovsky Fountain to  the spring of Syung-Su ;
  • the area of Lazo to  the area of Kirmachi ;
  • the area of Lomonosovo to  the area of Bai-Kogenli ;
  • the area of Peredove to the area of Tup-Tarkhan;
  • the area of Polyushkino to  the area of Burchi ;
  • the ravine of Polyushkina to  the ravine of Burchi;
  • the area of Pravdino to  the area of Ak-Tash ;
  • the area of Pyatiletka to  the area of Kopeyka ;
  • The Suvorovsky Oak to  The Oak "Four Brothers" ;
  • The Red Stone to  Kyzyl-Tash ;
  • the area of Chkalovo to  the area of Biyuk-Kardzhav .

"Decolonization, including the decolonization of toponymy, is an important part of Ukraine's memory policy, and the restoration of historical names in Crimea is directly linked to ensuring the rights of the indigenous peoples of Ukraine," - noted the representation.
