Cases of dangerous type A influenza have been identified in Mykolaiv region

The virology laboratory of the State Institution "Mykolaiv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine" has examined 2,449 samples since the beginning of the influenza and ARVI epidemic season.

A total of 351 positive results were found (14.3%), including:

- untyped influenza A – 14 (+12 positive results from last week);
- influenza A(H1)pdm09 – 16 (+2 from the previous week);
- influenza A(H3) – 45 (+11);
- influenza B – 13 (+4).

Previously identified but with no increase in positive results from last week:

- SARS-CoV-2 – 78 (+0);
- parainfluenza – 25 (+0);
- adenoviruses – 57 (+0);
- rhinoviruses – 66 (+0);
- RSV viruses – 25 (+0).

The influenza B virus is transmitted from person to person, while type A is more dangerous due to its rapid spread, as it can be carried by humans, animals, and birds. Type A viruses are responsible for epidemics and sometimes pandemics: “bird flu,” “swine flu,” and “Spanish flu” are all serotypes of type A influenza.

At the same time, as experts explained to "Novosti-N," the number of identified cases in Mykolaiv region corresponds to seasonal indicators and currently poses no danger.
