The chief of staff of a military unit in the Mykolaiv region has been charged with approving additional payments to soldiers who did not participate in combat — he has been notified of the suspicion.
This was reported by the State Bureau of Investigation (GBR).
In June 2024, the official instructed a subordinate, lacking sufficient professional experience, to handle the distribution of these payments. The subordinate then issued rewards to comrades that are only designated for those who directly participated in combat. The official failed to verify the actions of the subordinate and approved the payment documents.
The total amount of damage inflicted on the state exceeds 4.3 million hryvnias.
The chief of staff is suspected of negligent conduct by a military official, which led to severe consequences, committed under martial law (part 4 of Article 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The penalty for this article includes imprisonment for up to 8 years.
Measures are being taken to recover the damages inflicted on the state.
