In Mykolaiv region, "battery islands" will be created: Kim spoke about readiness for blackout
During the report on the work done in 2024, the head of Mykolaiv OVA Vitaliy Kim discussed the measures taken to protect energy infrastructure and prepare for a potential blackout.
In total, additional engineering protection has been provided for 39 of the most critical infrastructure facilities. Critical and social infrastructure facilities are fully equipped with generators and fuel for three days, with the generator fleet expanded not through budget funds but thanks to sponsors' assistance.
Moreover, efforts continue in the region to equip alternative energy sources, with an intensification expected in 2025.
- We are working to create something like islands in 2025, simply put, our batteries that will allow us to run our wind turbines and solar panels to ensure our own generation. The networks are designed for a different power supply method, but I believe that by the end of 2025, we will manage to align this situation, feel stable, and avoid blackouts, - Kim explained.
He also emphasized that the electricity produced in Mykolaiv region contributes to the unified energy system of the country.
- It’s a question that is unclear to many people because they perceive that we produce a lot of electricity and distribute it to everyone. No, we work for the unified energy system, - said the head of the region.
