A new trolleybus route to Matveevka has been approved in Mykolaiv

On February 12, the executive committee of the city council approved a new trolleybus route in Mykolaiv, designated as number 8. The trolleybuses will operate from Stroiteli Street to the remote area of Matveevka.

This information was reported by the press service of the Mykolaiv City Council.

Oleg Kuksa, the deputy head of the transport complex, communications, and telecommunications department, noted that this route was established in response to numerous requests from residents.

Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych explained that the electric transport will start its route from the corner of Stroiteli Street and Kherson Highway, where the trolleybus depot is located. It will travel along Central Avenue to the Arkasivskyi (Pushkinskyi) ring, then head to the old railway station, and proceed along Arkasivska Street (Pushkinska Street), Heroes of Ukraine Avenue, and finally to Matveevka.

On the new route, passengers will be transported by modern PTS trolleybuses equipped with an autonomous drive system capable of traveling up to 20 km. These vehicles are being purchased as part of a large project to renew electric transport. It is noteworthy that the city will receive an additional 10 such trolleybuses by the end of the year.

Mykolaiv is being supported by Denmark, which is providing funding for part of the trolleybuses.

The new trolleybus route No. 8 "Stroiteli Street – Matveevka District" will commence operations on February 16. Five trolleybuses with autonomous drive will be used to transport passengers.

During the initial phase, the transport will operate in test mode, so temporary deviations from the schedules may occur, which will be adjusted as necessary.

“The travel time from the terminal stop in Matveevka to the Mykolaiv-Gruzovyi railway station will be 46 minutes, while the journey to the terminal on Stroiteli Street will take 71 minutes. When creating the schedules, it was also considered that some trolleybuses will run to Matveevske Cemetery,” said Yuriy Smetana, director of KP "Mykolaivelectrotrans."

Yuriy Smetana also mentioned that the same transportation rules will apply on the new route as in all electric transport in Mykolaiv.

“The fare remains unchanged despite the significant length of the route: 8 hryvnias when purchasing a ticket from the driver, and 7 hryvnias when paying via QR code. Free travel remains available for certain categories, including students and senior citizens. The main requirement is to carry identification if you are using the discounted fare,” Yuriy Smetana emphasized.
