On December 17, in Moscow, two individuals lost their lives following an explosion on Ryazansky Avenue. Among the victims was a lieutenant general.

This has been reported by Russian media outlets.

Local residents claim that they first heard a detonation sound, followed by the sight of a car and the bodies of the men. The explosion occurred around 6:11 AM Moscow time.

Windows and doors on the first floors of a nearby building were shattered, and several vehicles were also damaged. It remains unclear what caused the explosion, but it is asserted that an explosive device, containing approximately 200 grams of TNT, was detonated remotely. It had been placed in a scooter at the entrance of the building where the deceased were entering.

According to Russian Telegram channels, it is suggested that an unidentified man parked the scooter, which had an explosive device attached to its handle, near the entrance several hours prior to the explosion — around 2 to 3 AM.

The scooter was positioned between the building and the victims’ vehicle.

"It's likely that the bomber or their accomplice may not have even been in the line of sight, but could access the entrance camera, which many residents of the residential complex have," Russian media outlets report.

As clarified by Telegram channels, the explosion blew off the entrance door of the building and shattered windows. Additionally, the general's service vehicle was damaged.

The Russian Telegram channel Mash reports that the second victim of the explosion in Moscow was the lieutenant general’s driver. Allegedly, he arrived to pick up his superior around 6 AM to take him to work.

Currently, bomb disposal experts are inspecting the area around the building on Ryazansky Avenue. The scooter, which is believed to have had the explosive device attached, will be taken for examination.

It was later revealed that the lieutenant general of the Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Defense of the Russian Armed Forces, Igor Kirilov, died as a result of the explosion on Ryazansky Avenue. He was the head of the troops responsible for radiation, chemical, and biological defense in the Russian army.

Just before this incident, the SBU reported that they had announced suspicion against a Russian general who ordered the use of chemical weapons against the Ukrainian Defense Forces. The report specifically names Lieutenant General Igor Kirilov.

"Under Kirilov's orders, since the beginning of the full-scale war, there have been over 4,800 recorded instances of the enemy using chemical munitions.

In particular, this refers to combat grenades "K-1," which are filled with irritating toxic substances – CS and CN. Their use is prohibited by the Convention on the Prohibition of Development, Production, Stockpiling, and Use of Chemical Weapons and on Their Destruction dated January 13, 1993.

During the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, more than 2,000 members of the Defense Forces of Ukraine have been sent to military hospitals and other medical institutions with varying degrees of chemical poisoning," the SBU reported.
