Late on Sunday, February 23, explosions were heard in Kyiv. It was later confirmed that the air defense system was operational.
The information was reported by the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Timur Tkachенко.
An air raid alert was declared in Kyiv on February 23 at 22:33. The air forces warned of enemy drone movements towards the capital.
Subsequently, the Air Forces reported that UAVs were approaching Kyiv from the south and northeast. Further explosions were heard in the capital.
Around 22:45, Timur Tkachенко confirmed that the air defense system was active in the capital.
The Kyiv City Military Administration added that the air defense was engaged in neutralizing the threat in the skies over Kyiv.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko also wrote that air defense forces were responding to hostile UAVs entering the city center. The mayor urged residents and visitors to seek shelter.
At 23:09, Timur Tkachенко reported that debris from a downed drone had fallen in the open area of the Desnyansky district. Emergency services are heading to the site, and information about any casualties is being clarified.
