ISW Assesses the Possibility of Peace in Ukraine on Putin's Terms

No negotiations between the Kremlin and Western countries for ending the war in Ukraine on the terms set by Russian dictator Putin can guarantee a sustainable peace.

Analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) made this assertion. The report highlights that the Kremlin has expressed its readiness to negotiate with the newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump without any "preconditions," yet emphasized that its negotiating stance remains unchanged.

"No negotiations will lead to a comprehensive and sustainable peace as long as Putin continues to support these demands, despite the Kremlin's 'willingness' to engage in talks with Western leaders," ISW noted.

Yesterday, newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump announced preparations for negotiations with Putin. In response, the dictator's spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Putin is open to contacts. Peskov reiterated that the Kremlin maintains its position on Ukraine, which Putin clearly defined in June 2024.
