The Military Registration and Enlistment Office mobilized a man with schizophrenia who had been a prisoner, according to the media.
According to the Odessa Regional Military Registration and Enlistment Office, they mobilized a man diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia because no grounds for deferral were found during the verification of his data.
This information was provided to “Slidstvo.Info” by the Odessa Regional Military Registration and Enlistment Office in response to a request following the publication of a report on the mobilization of individuals with mental disorders and severe addiction issues.
The case concerns a young man who experienced captivity in occupied Kherson and was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia in 2021.
Nikola (name changed for ethical reasons, as the man has been diagnosed with schizophrenia) was detained and mobilized by the Khadjibey Military Registration and Enlistment Office in Odessa in the fall of 2024. The man himself recounted to journalists that his words and documents regarding his illness and captivity were ignored at the enlistment office.
“They said I would show the documents already at the military unit,” the man emphasizes.

The regional military office confirmed that Nikola was indeed delivered to the Khadjibey Military Registration and Enlistment Office in November 2024.
“During the verification of the military records of the conscript, it was established that he had no grounds for deferral and was subject to conscription under the general mobilization. Following the verification of his records, the conscript was referred to the military medical commission, which concluded that the aforementioned citizen was fit for military service and, according to the order of the head of the Khadjibey Military Registration and Enlistment Office, was called up for military service under the general mobilization,” the response to the inquiry stated.
The Military Registration and Enlistment Office also added that no force or psychological pressure was applied to this recruit during his time at the enlistment office.
However, upon arriving at the military unit, Nikola presented his documents confirming his diagnosed condition. They responded and initiated the discharge procedure, which has been ongoing for over two months.
It is worth noting that earlier, in response to inquiries from journalists at “Slidstvo.Info,” the Command of the Ground Forces stated that instances of individuals with severe psychiatric disorders, alcohol, and drug dependencies joining the ranks of the Armed Forces are unacceptable. They also reported that they are working on improving the system of medical selection for recruits and the quality control of military medical commissions (MMC).
