A university employee jumped out of a military recruitment vehicle: he is in the hospital with injuries
The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the injury of Stepan Bilchenko, an employee of Lviv University. A criminal case has already been opened.
This was reported by the police of the Zhytomyr region.
"The man was found by drivers on the roadway on the outskirts of Zhytomyr city on February 7 at around 18:00 and they notified the police," the agency stated.
It has been revealed that a forensic investigative team from the Zhytomyr district police and emergency medical personnel worked at the scene.
"Doctors transported the injured man to the hospital's intensive care unit, where he was diagnosed with severe head injuries. The man did not explain the circumstances of his injuries to the medical staff," police officials said.
However, during initial questioning by police, he denied the involvement of any other individuals, which was recorded on the body cameras of the patrol officers.
"The injured man is currently in the hospital, and medical staff assess his condition as stable. During the initial investigative actions, it was established that the victim is a 27-year-old resident of Lviv region, a soldier of one of the military units," the law enforcement officials noted.
According to colleagues, the man disappeared while moving personnel from the unit, where he had received his gear that day, to a training center.
"The man was in the cargo area of the vehicle, and during the vehicle's movement, he jumped out. It is likely that he sustained the mentioned injuries during his escape," police confirmed.
The Lviv regional military recruitment center reported that Bilchenko, who had not updated his military registration details, was taken to the Lychakiv-Zheleznodorozhny military recruitment center, where he underwent a military medical commission, which deemed him fit for military service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"He did not present any medical or other documents that would grant him the right to deferment," the military recruitment center noted.
It has been reported that on February 5, 2025, Bilchenko was conscripted for military service by the Lychakiv-Zheleznodorozhny military recruitment center in Lviv. On February 6, soldier Stepan Borysovych Bilchenko was sent to military unit A2900 for basic military training.
As explained by the Lviv regional military recruitment center, since Bilchenko worked as a laboratory assistant, he did not acquire the right to deferment.
