Scandal over pruned plane trees on Sobornaya: local authorities stated that residents requested the trimming.

The scandal regarding the "pruned" plane trees on Soborna Street: the municipal enterprise stated that this was requested by the residents.

The so-called "sanitary pruning" of trees on Soborna Street in Mykolaiv was carried out in response to numerous requests from residents. A preliminary inspection of the trees confirmed the necessity of these actions.

As writes the Mykolaiv City Council, this was stated by the director of the municipal enterprise "Mykolaiv Parks," Dmytro Chuchmai.

He emphasized that the main goal of these works was "to preserve green spaces and maintain them in proper condition."

“An important factor in conducting the pruning is to prevent cases of falling hazardous and dry branches during heavy rains and strong winds, ensuring safety for the movement of city residents,” said Dmytro Chuchmai.

He also noted that in his opinion, the trees "will not lose their decorative value."

“On the contrary, after removing the dry and rotten branches, the trees will be able to fully expand and sprout new, fresh green shoots. For comparison, we can observe the healthy development of a new crown in the trees that were previously pruned on Soborna Street in February 2024,” the director assured.

On the morning of Wednesday, January 8, workers from the municipal enterprise "Mykolaiv Parks" began pruning the trees on Soborna Street again. Police officers, representatives from the State Ecological Inspection of the Southwestern Region, and the director of the municipal enterprise Dmytro Chuchmai arrived at the scene. The police halted the tree pruning operations.

A meeting of the permanent deputy commission “on ecological issues” was held in the Mykolaiv Regional Council regarding the controversial pruning of plane trees on Soborna Street in Mykolaiv. Following the meeting, the commission members decided to thoroughly investigate the activities of the municipal enterprise "Mykolaiv Parks."
