Photos and details have emerged regarding a fatal car accident in the Mykolaiv region.

On Friday, December 27, a traffic accident occurred on the M-14 highway "Odessa – Melitopol – Novoazovsk" in Mykolaiv Oblast involving a VAZ-21104 and a Toyota RAV4.

This was reported by the Mykolaiv Oblast police.

Approximately at 18:20, on the 68th km of the M-14 highway "Odessa – Melitopol – Novoazovsk" in the Berezanka community, a traffic incident took place involving the VAZ and Toyota vehicles.

As a result of the collision, the 50-year-old driver and the 42-year-old passenger of the VAZ died at the scene. The driver and passenger of the Toyota sustained injuries and were hospitalized.

The 26-year-old Toyota driver was detained by investigators under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

Investigators classified the incident as a criminal offense under Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to "Violation of traffic safety rules or transportation operation by individuals managing vehicles, resulting in the death of several people." The sanction for this article provides for imprisonment for up to ten years, along with a ban on driving for up to three years.

Currently, under the procedural guidance of the Mykolaiv Oblast Prosecutor's Office, the issue of notifying the detainee of suspicion is being addressed.

A court will soon determine the preventive measures for the individual involved.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

As previously reported by "Novosti-N", the driver and passenger of the VAZ died and were trapped in the structural elements of the vehicle. Rescuers used hydraulic tools to free the bodies of the deceased.
