Almost half of Ukrainians believe that Trump's victory brings the world closer to peace
About half of the surveyed Ukrainians (45%) think that Donald Trump's win in the U.S. presidential elections brings the world closer to peace. This is indicated by the results of a survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, published on Friday, December 27.
"Almost half - 45% - believe that Trump's victory brings the world closer to peace. However, among them, 15% feel that peace is getting much closer, while the remaining 30% say it is getting a little closer," - sociologists note.
On the other hand, 14% believe that peace is becoming more distant (5% say significantly so, and 9% say somewhat). The remaining 40% either think nothing will change or could not form an opinion.
Sociologists also asked whether Ukraine can expect a just peace under Trump.
Only 7% of respondents are convinced that peace can be entirely fair for Ukraine, while just 11% believe that peace will be completely unfair for Ukraine.
"Most Ukrainians are positioned between these two extremes, and the question is more about the ratio - whether there will be more fulfillment of Ukraine's demands or, on the contrary, more fulfillment of Russia's demands," - sociologists point out.
In total, 23% of Ukrainians believe that under Trump, peace will be predominantly or entirely fair for Ukraine. It is thought that it will be predominantly or entirely unfair - 31%.
Another 29% believe there will be both fulfillment of Ukraine's demands and concessions to Russia, making it difficult to determine which will be more prevalent. The remaining 18% could not form an opinion.
The study was conducted from December 2 to December 17. A total of 985 respondents aged 18 and older were surveyed through telephone interviews in areas controlled by Ukraine.
