May Island is now Cossack Island, and the October Reservoir has been renamed Vytovskoye: new names in the Mykolaiv region
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has adopted a resolution to rename a number of toponyms in Ukraine, including those in the Mykolaiv region.
This is mentioned in resolution No. 49 dated January 17, 2025.
Among the places being renamed in the Mykolaiv region is May Island, which is referred to in the document as "Pervomaisky," and is now called Cossack. The October Reservoir has become Vytovskoye, and several railway stations and parks have also been renamed.
