The UN adopted a resolution from the USA, referring to the war between Russia and Ukraine as a conflict.

The UN Security Council accepted the resolution on "peace in Ukraine," proposed by the USA, with 10 votes in favor. No one voted against, while five European countries (the UK, France, Greece, Slovenia, and Denmark) abstained.

RBK-Ukraine explains the content of the American resolution and the ongoing struggle at the UN regarding decisions on Ukraine.

During an extraordinary meeting of the UN Security Council, convened at the request of the Americans, the USA presented its resolution titled "Path to Peace." It consists of just a few lines and calls for the "cessation of the conflict" and the "establishment of sustainable peace" between Ukraine and Russia.

However, the document does not condemn or even mention the fact of Russian aggression against Ukraine, nor does it call for the withdrawal of Russian troops from the occupied territory or the restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity.

This current UN Security Council resolution is the first resolution adopted since the full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine. Previous resolutions condemning aggression were vetoed by Russia.

France and the UK, as permanent members of the Security Council, had veto rights during the voting on today's resolution, but they chose not to exercise them.

It is noteworthy that a similar resolution project from the USA was previously presented at the UN General Assembly. During that session, significant amendments were made, notably replacing the word "conflict" with "full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine." Following that, the document was approved by the General Assembly as a whole, with the USA abstaining from the vote and Russia voting against.

Interestingly, prior to this, the General Assembly had supported another resolution, authored by Ukraine and several dozen other countries, which called for the restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, urging Russia to withdraw its troops from Ukrainian territory and cease military actions against Ukraine.
