Soaked in flammable liquid, taken through a minefield: an occupier will be tried for torture in Mykolaiv region
In the Mykolaiv region, a case against a Russian colonel who tortured a local resident has been submitted to court.
This was reported by the communication department of the Mykolaiv police and the Mykolaiv regional prosecutor's office.
During the pre-trial investigation, the identity of a 38-year-old Russian army colonel with the call sign "Krasnodar" was established. At the time of the crime, he held the position of commander of the 2nd battalion of the 205th separate motorized rifle Cossack brigade. The occupier issued orders for the illegal detention and torture of residents, in which he personally participated.
“In May 2022, in one of the settlements occupied at that time in the Bashtanka district, the suspect, along with other unidentified Russian military personnel, kidnapped a 52-year-old woman, placed a bag over her head, and psychologically pressured her to obtain information about local men - soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The occupiers intimidated the woman, taking her through a mined area, doused her with flammable liquid, and threatened to set her on fire. After that, the victim was imprisoned,” the police reported.
In November of last year, the occupier was notified of suspicion in absentia.
The Mykolaiv regional prosecutor's office has approved and submitted an indictment against the commander of the 205th separate motorized rifle Cossack brigade from Russia for violating the laws and customs of war, committed by a group of individuals in premeditated conspiracy (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 8 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He faces up to 12 years in prison.
Currently, investigators have completed the pre-trial investigation and sent the criminal proceedings to the prosecutor's office, which has forwarded the indictment to the court for substantive consideration.
