Residents of Mykolaiv are once again urged not to swim in the city rivers during Epiphany

On Monday, January 6, Ukraine celebrates the holiday of Epiphany. Residents of Mykolaiv have been advised to refrain from swimming in the rivers.

This information comes from the Mykolaiv City Council.

“As is well known, on this holiday, many believers observe the ancient rite of immersion and bathing in ice holes, believing that on this day, the water gains healing powers and helps to cleanse from sins.

However, during martial law, it is important to remember and understand the dangers that await us in water bodies and whether there is a ban on visiting water areas.

Considering that the water areas of the rivers in Mykolaiv have not been checked for explosive objects, the Department of Emergency Situations and Civil Protection of the Mykolaiv City Council recommends refraining from performing the rituals of celebrating Epiphany in the city's water bodies.

At the same time, we remind you that by the decision of the executive committee of the Mykolaiv City Council dated 02.06.2022 No. 348, the operation of beaches, places of mass recreation of the population on the coastal protective strips of water bodies, the use of floating means, the organization of water attractions, and places for water sports and physical health activities is prohibited during the period of martial law,” the statement said.

Water will be shut off on several streets in Mykolaiv until the eveningPension payments to Ukrainians have increased by 9.6% for 2024
