A peace agreement is being prepared without the involvement of Zelensky, - Bloomberg
The terms for a peaceful resolution to the war in Ukraine are being negotiated behind President Vladimir Zelensky's back.
This was reported on Thursday, February 13, by Bloomberg columnist Flavia Krause-Jackson.
She notes that even before Zelensky arrives at the Munich Security Conference tomorrow to reiterate his arguments for Ukraine's independence before the U.S., the fate of his country seems to have already been "decided".
The day before U.S. President Donald Trump's phone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, the American leader explicitly stated that "Ukraine could someday become Russian".
"Forget about NATO membership or American boots (the presence of American troops - ed.) on Ukrainian soil. Ukraine will have to cede territory that Russia began to seize back in 2014. Zelensky was informed about this almost as a fact. The terms for a peaceful resolution are being agreed upon behind his back. And proposals regarding mineral exchanges are being discussed.".
According to the columnist, the "bitter irony" is that it was in Munich in 1938 that Western nations believed they could contain Nazi aggression by agreeing to Germany's annexation of part of Czechoslovakia.
"Some see echoes of that failed policy of appeasement today and predict that Putin will continue to test NATO's eastern flank. Critics say that Europe should not just expect the U.S. to protect it indefinitely," - she writes.
Krause-Jackson also points out that Trump noted Zelensky's "not very high" ratings and the necessity of elections, - "a rather blunt hint that he wants Zelensky to step down". This may please Putin, it is noted.
Today, Zelensky expressed his view that Trump first called Putin, and then – him.
