The Mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Senkevych, commented on the dispute between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump, which occurred during a meeting at the White House on Friday, February 28. The mayor stated that Europe must unite and strengthen its defense without illusions about a "Big Brother."

He shared this on his social media page on Telegram.

“Did you expect that the outcome of today’s meeting would be apologies for the 'dictator' and a new package of sanctions and weapons?

Once again: Ukraine is not a country that accepts ultimatums.

President Zelensky left the U.S. with dignity and did not let us down.

Today in the Oval Office, they interrupted not him and threatened not him, but us – Ukrainians.

If diplomacy means silently listening to lies and not defending your country, then perhaps we have a poor diplomat.

It is difficult to overstate the assistance that the U.S. has provided to the Ukrainian people. They are supplying arms, supporting communities and residents. And we are incredibly grateful to the people of the United States for this! This aid has saved and preserved many lives of Ukrainians.

The new U.S. president is guided by pragmatic calculations. We must finally understand that U.S. support in this new light is not altruism, but part of a larger game. And if the rules change, we must draw conclusions and act accordingly. We need to be more flexible and hardworking.

This meeting is yet another signal to Europe: it’s time to unite around Ukraine and strengthen defense without illusions about a 'Big Brother.' And we are already seeing the reaction of our partners and understanding that we are moving in the right direction.

For us, this is a reminder: do not wait for a miracle, but fight for peace ourselves.

Believe in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Support the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” wrote the Mayor of Mykolaiv.
