The EU has proposed its own agreement on "rare earths" to Ukraine
The European Union has presented Ukraine with its own agreement regarding the use of rare earth materials. This proposal is expected to be more advantageous than the American offer.
This was announced by European Commissioner for Industrial Strategy Stefan Sejourne, as reported by Politico.
"Twenty-one out of the 30 critical materials that Europe needs can be supplied by Ukraine as part of a mutually beneficial partnership," Sejourne explained.
He also noted, "The additional value that Europe offers is that we will never demand the conclusion of a reciprocal agreement."
The specifics of the European agreement are not yet known.
Washington has proposed an agreement to Ukraine regarding rare earth metals, which included the establishment of a $500 billion fund. The U.S. would gain economic and managerial rights in this fund, and the proceeds from resource sales would be used as a means of "reimbursement" for American aid. President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that the support amounted to $100 billion and should not be considered a debt.
NBC News reported that Trump had suggested providing Ukraine with 50% rights to rare earth metals but expressed readiness to station American troops to protect the resources.
Yesterday, Ukraine's Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stefanishina announced that the teams from Ukraine and the United States are in the final stages of negotiations concerning rare earth metals.
