Attack on Mykolaiv: Eyewitness Accounts Published

On February 16, Russian forces launched a massive attack on Mykolaiv using "Shaheds." Local residents reported damage to homes, shops, and offices. Additionally, a critical infrastructure facility in the city was affected.

Alexey, the manager of a chain of stores, recounts learning about the attack from security personnel during the night, as reported by Suspilne.

"The security called me at night. They said a 'Shahed' hit, shattering all the windows. Because of the curfew, I arrived early in the morning and saw such damage that the frame was completely bent, and there were no windows left," the man states.

Evgeny, the director of another store, mentions that the shelling damaged the display windows and merchandise.

"Everything will be fine; we will sort it out. We will clean up and open as soon as the police allow us," he says.

Natalia is clearing the remnants of her trading pavilion, which was destroyed during the Russian "Shahed" attack. She notes that she lives in a nearby building, where her window and balcony were also damaged.

"I was standing by the window when a 'Shahed' flew by; it was shot down and fell. There were many refrigerators in the store. Two refrigerated displays with sausages, cheese, and milk. Two refrigerators: one with ice cream and the other with meat," the woman recounts.

"I had one store, and now I am left without work," she adds.

Municipal services assisted those affected by the Russian attack by boarding up windows with OSB sheets and cleaning up yards. Volunteers from the Red Cross were also on-site.

"We are distributing film to the population so they (local residents - ed.) can cover their shattered windows. We are also providing warm blankets, food packages, and household chemicals. This is a standard aid package in such cases," said Arkadiy Dabagyan, deputy head of the Mykolaiv regional organization of the Red Cross.

As a result of the attack, there is damage to critical infrastructure, and a fire broke out. Additionally, five apartment buildings were damaged due to falling debris and the blast wave.

A 64-year-old man was injured in the attack and has been hospitalized. His current condition is stable.

In the city center, a 'Shahed' exploded on the roadway - damaging offices and shops.

Also, in Mykolaiv, residential buildings were damaged, and a store was completely destroyed after the explosion, leaving part of the city without heating.
