A 16-year-old boy rescued his younger brother from a burning house in the Mykolaiv region: details of the story (video)
The Amalsky family from Ivanivka, part of the Bratske community in the Mykolaiv region, is recovering from a terrible Saturday morning when a fire broke out in their home.
The poignant story of the older brother saving his younger sibling was shared by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Mykolaiv region.
Ludmila, the mother of this large family, was busy with household chores in the yard, and nothing seemed amiss. She has six children: 16-year-old Dmytro, 13-year-old Kyrylo, 8-year-old Vladyslav, 7-year-old Karyna, and 3-year-old Anatolii and Nazar, who were still sleeping. Suddenly, she smelled smoke coming from the house. She rushed to wake the children and lead them outside to the nearby summer kitchen. However, she couldn’t find Vladyslav in the smoke-filled house. Hearing his mother’s cries, the older boy Dmytro sprang into action to search for him. He found his younger brother by touch and saved his life.
“It happened in the far room. I called for him with all my might, and he was silent. Only when I shouted at the top of my lungs did he respond. It turned out that Vladik was lying on the floor near the bed, almost right in front of me. I carried him out, but it didn’t happen right away because dense smoke filled the house. I quickly handed him to my mom, and she immediately began administering first aid.
Along with 13-year-old Kyrylo, we tried to extinguish the sofa and bed in the room. I couldn’t afford to lose our home, as we have a large family. After that, my mom called the firefighters and medics,” recalls the emotional, truly heroic family member Dmytro.
About his injured brother, who is currently receiving treatment for burns in Mykolaiv and has already undergone surgery, Dmytro speaks with deep emotion: “Vladik is very kind, polite, obedient, quiet, and I feel so sorry for him. I hope he gains strength, recovers, and that we will all be together again.”
The rescuers spoke with Dmytro Amalsky, who, along with neighbors, is restoring the house after the fire. They thanked him for his heroic act, presented him with valuable gifts, and also provided treats for the children, who are currently with relatives and eagerly awaiting their mother and brother to come home.
