An ancient mug, originating from the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, has been discovered in a private collection in Great Britain.

This was reported by the press service of the reserve.

“During a joint study of the collection of Rosalind and Arthur Gilberts, an item believed to originate from the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra was found. It is a beer mug made of silver, gilded and embedded with coins,” the specialists noted.

According to researchers, the mug was crafted around the year 1700. Its creator is Daniel Dankmeier (Mittau, Latvia). On the outer side of the bottom of the mug, there is an inscription “KP Lavra”.

“For many years, Ukraine has been engaged in the search and identification of items that were lost or taken from churches and museum collections during the Soviet era. Most likely, this item was in the sacristy of the Assumption Cathedral in the early 20th century and, for reasons yet to be investigated, ended up abroad,” said the deputy director of the reserve, Svitlana Kotliarevska.

It should be noted, that in Kyiv, law enforcement prevented the illegal sale of fragments of a men's bracelet and belt, as well as a silver fibula
