There are approximately 7,500 ancient graffiti on the walls of the cathedral
The National Preserve "St. Sophia of Kyiv" invites residents and visitors to the city to join the tour "What the Ancient Walls Tell."
Participants of the tour will learn the history of the unique graffiti that our ancestors scratched onto the walls of St. Sophia Cathedral hundreds of years ago.
“Someone recently aptly referred to graffiti as the ‘SMS of the Middle Ages.’ Today, we count around 7,500 such ‘SMS’ in Sophia. Of course, it’s impossible to cover that many graffiti during the tour, but you will have the opportunity to take a non-standard route through St. Sophia Cathedral and see some highlights of our epigraphic collection, touching upon the living testimonies of historical past,” – promised the national preserve.
The tour will be conducted by long-time graffiti researcher, Doctor of Historical Sciences Vyacheslav Korneyenko.
Date and Time: Thursday, January 16, at 3:00 PM.
Location: near the main entrance of St. Sophia Cathedral, narthex gallery.
Duration of the tour: 1.5 hours.
Ticket price: 300 UAH.
