TheUkrainian cultural heritage is facing daily losses
The Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine intends to appeal to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for assistance in establishing a mechanism to preserve and protect the architectural integrity of the streets in the historical center of the capital, regardless of the buildings' status or ownership form.
This was reported by the ministry's press service.
The Ministry of Culture believes that a systematic approach will help protect cultural heritage as an inseparable part of national identity and, most importantly, will create a database for the restoration of historical buildings and structures. In the context of war, Ukrainian cultural heritage suffers daily losses, which have devastating consequences for national identity.
It should be noted that on the morning of January 1, as a result of yet another airstrike by Russian occupiers on the capital, 17 historical buildings in the city center were damaged.
