Restoration of the object is planned to be completed this year
Restoration work is being carried out at the National Reserve "Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra," specifically on the Kushnik Tower, one of the most notable examples of fortification architecture.
This information was reported by the press service of the reserve.
According to specialists, the tower was constructed in the late 17th to early 18th centuries as part of the Lavra's defensive fortifications. Historical records indicate that a church dedicated to Saint John of Kushnik was planned for the upper part of the tower.
The last restoration of this tower took place over 50 years ago.
Currently, restoration efforts are 60-70 percent complete. Specifically, the dome with the cross has been restored. The metal covering of the dome has been replaced with copper and gilded, wooden structures have been partially replaced and restored, and the foundations and brick walls have been reinforced.
The reserve noted that the completion of the restoration is scheduled for 2025, which will include the execution of interior works—installation of ceilings, flooring, and external finishing.
As a reminder, last year, the deputies of the Kyiv City Council transferred the land of the National Reserve "Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra" for permanent use.
