At the Dormition Cathedral of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, a display of two miraculous icons of the Mother of God – the Ozerianska (from 1734) and the Vyshhorodska (17th century) – will begin on December 21.

This was reported by the press service of the National PreserveKyiv Pechersk Lavra.

As noted, these icons are not only witnesses to Ukraine's centuries-old history but also symbols of faith that have inspired and supported Ukrainians throughout the ages.

According to museum staff, the Ozerianska icon is the main shrine and protector of the city of Kharkiv and the entire Slobozhanshchyna region. This shrine is renowned for its numerous miraculous deeds and has been a source of spiritual support for believers for nearly three centuries.

The Vyshhorodska icon of the Mother of God, created between 1650 and 1690, has a captivating history. Notably, it spent a significant amount of time in Italy before being returned to Ukraine in 2016.

“Its silver and gold garments are crafted in the baroque-rococo style and are distinguished by a high level of artistic quality,” — museum representatives shared.

They noted that visitors will have the opportunity not only to see these unique icons but also to participate in prayer before the shrines, which will be displayed in the central part of the Dormition Cathedral.

It should be mentioned that the icons will be showcased from December 21, 2024, to January 7, 2025.

Reminder, in the fall, restorers from the National Restoration Center completed the restoration of the iconostasis of the Church of St. George, located in Drohobych and included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
