Artifacts seized from smugglers

The Kyiv customs has transferred 78 items of cultural value to the National Reserve "Khortytsia." Among them are weapons crafted from the 1st to the 17th centuries, as well as ancient Russian and medieval artifacts and ancient clothing elements.

This was reported by the press service of the capital customs.

According to customs officials, the items were confiscated during attempts to illegally export them from Ukraine in international mail shipments to the USA, Germany, and Great Britain.

Among the transferred artifacts are spearheads, silver buckles, and beads from the Pshav culture and the Chernyakhiv culture (1st – 4th century), arrowheads from the Saltiv culture, the Slavic period, Kievan Rus, and the Golden Horde (8th – 14th century), as well as spear and arrowheads from ancient Rus and a medieval sword blade.

The Pshav culture was prevalent, particularly in the regions of Transcarpathia, Maramureș, and Galicia, while the Chernyakhiv culture was found in the forest-steppe zone of Ukraine, stretching from the Siverskyi Donets to the Dniester in the east and from the Prut to the Bug River in the west. The Saltiv archaeological culture was widespread in eastern Crimea.

Reminder, earlier the Kyiv customs transferred twenty historical artifacts seized from mail shipments to the National Military History Museum of Ukraine.
