Unique artifacts were seized during an attempt to illegally export them abroad
The Kyiv customs have handed over twenty historical artifacts, confiscated from postal shipments, to the National Military History Museum of Ukraine.
As stated by customs officials, among the transferred finds are authentic axes made of wrought iron, which were discovered in three parcels destined for the USA from Dnipropetrovsk region.
“The axes still have sharp blades that have retained their original configuration. The largest of the discovered axes dates back to the Cossack era, under the conditional name ‘horbach.’ The age of the artifact is from the 16th to early 17th century. The two smaller axes are working, carpentry tools from the Kyiv Rus period, dating back to the 10th-13th centuries,” the statement reads.
Additionally, five triangular Scythian bronze arrowheads from the 5th century B.C. were transferred to the museum. The arrowheads were seized from a postal shipment that was heading from Bila Tserkva to Germany.
Customs officials also handed over other findings to the museum's collection, including the tip of a Khazar spear, coins from the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and the Order of the Red Star.
“The artifacts did not fall into the hands of audacious traffickers, and after art historical expertise and necessary procedures, they will be kept at the National Military History Museum, where every visitor will be able to see these witnesses of history with their own eyes,” the capital customs office noted.
