Residents proposed a solution for preserving the mural
Capital residents are urging the city authorities to take necessary measures to protect Alla Horska's mosaic on the facade of the "Vetryak" restaurant building, as well as to preserve the building itself.
A relevant petition has been registered on the Kyiv City Council website.
The authors of the initiative explained that Alla Horska's mosaic is the last surviving mosaic work of the artist, as the others were destroyed by the totalitarian regime and Russian invaders. At the same time, the "Vetryak" restaurant building has a unique history and is an important and integral part of the capital's history from the second half of the 20th century.
In this context, the signatories noted that to preserve the mosaic panel, it is essential to enter into appropriate agreements with the building's owner, place signs with information about the legal status of the mosaic and the building on its facade, restore the mosaic, cover it with bulletproof glass, include it on the map of notable and cultural sites in Kyiv and Ukraine, and establish video surveillance.
It should be noted that in the capital's DVRZ residential area, a developer who acquired the premises of an old culinary establishment, for unclear reasons, destroyed the mosaic depicting characters from popular children's fairy tales.
