A literary and artistic exhibition has been launched in the capital for the Christmas and New Year holidays
The exhibition, part of the St. Nicholas Literary Residence, was created by the National Museum of Literature in collaboration with the House of Children's Creativity in the Shevchenkivskyi District of Kyiv.
At the museum, visitors can truly feel the magic of the holiday through Christmas and New Year books for children written by contemporary Ukrainian authors, unique illustrations by renowned artists, and creations meticulously crafted by the students of the House of Children's Creativity in the Shevchenkivskyi District.
The exhibition features books from well-known Ukrainian authors: Roman Zavadovych, Halyna Kypy, Mariya Morosenko, Ivan Malkovych, Oleksandr Havrosh, Larysa Nedin, Olha Kupriyan, and Nadiya Herbish, from which readers will learn how our ancestors welcomed St. Nicholas and celebrated Christmas, how carolers congratulated the hosts, and what traditional dishes were enjoyed on Holy Evening.
As mentioned on the Facebook page of the museum, illustrations by famous artists such as Kostiantyn Lavro, Kateryna Shtanko, and Viktoriya Kovalchuk will help immerse visitors in the pre-Christmas atmosphere.
Alongside renowned artists, the creative works of students from the House of Children's Creativity are also showcased: folk artistic groups "Kaleidoscope of Mastery" (led by Lyudmyla Bashynska) and "Svitlytsia" (led by Nadiya Saliy).
The works of young artists are created using various artistic techniques: kunisai, fabric and button appliqué, soft toys, bead weaving, thread graphics, and ribbon embroidery. Each piece is the result of multifaceted creative effort, reflecting not only technical skill but also the worldview and emotions of the young authors.
This exhibition provides an opportunity to see how children's imagination takes form and how the students of the House of Children's Creativity discover new horizons of self-expression through their creativity. All works carry a unique energy characteristic of a child's perspective on the world, making them distinct and irreplaceable.
Visitors can also admire ancient traditional straw weaving crafts by Ukrainian artisan Maria Kravchuk and write letters to St. Nicholas.
The festive mood will be enhanced by meetings with Ukrainian children's writers and artists, as well as performances for children by the Museum Puppet Theater, which will take place as part of the exhibition.
