Out of the 140 monuments registered with the National Reserve "Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra," 38 are in unsatisfactory condition, and four are in emergency condition, posing risks of their destruction.
This is stated in the materials from the audit of the effective use of state budget funds allocated to the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
According to the Accounting Chamber of Ukraine, due to underfunding of capital expenditures in 2020–2021 and 2023, only seven objects underwent repair and restoration works in the reserve, costing 29.1 million hryvnias.
From 2020 to 2023, the relevant ministry allocated 556.4 million hryvnias across four budget programs. Thus, the funding needs of the reserve were met by only 51.2 percent.
Auditors also note that due to ineffective management decisions by the reserve's administration, 25.2 million hryvnias of approved budget funds were not utilized and were returned to the budget. This indicates a lack of systematic approach to planning and operational adjustments of measures and budget.
It is worth reminding that this historical monument is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Saint Sophia and Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra in Kyiv," which includes a list of eight World Heritage Sites in Ukraine. It is the largest museum complex in Eastern Europe.
