On Sunday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that his administration has scheduled a series of meetings and negotiations. Specifically, with Ukraine, Russia, and "various parties."
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing CNN.
"We are dealing with Ukraine and Russia; we have meetings and negotiations planned with various parties, including Ukraine and Russia," he told reporters.
CNN notes that Trump's comments came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's advisor, Dmytro Litvin, called for a "deeper approach" to resolving the issue from Kyiv's allies.
The remarks followed recent statements from Trump's special representative for Ukraine and Russia, Kurt Volker. In a comment to Reuters, he said that the U.S. wants elections to take place in Ukraine by the end of the year, especially if a ceasefire with the Russian Federation is achieved in the coming months.
In response, Zelensky's advisor Litvin stated that Volker's plan is a failure if it consists only of a ceasefire and holding elections.
"In response to Reuters' question regarding Mr. Volker's statements about a ceasefire and elections - we have not seen the full interview with Volker, only a few quotes about the elections, so it is difficult to fully assess his position. But if his plan is merely a ceasefire and elections, then that is a failed plan - Putin cannot be intimidated by just these two things," Litvin wrote on social media platform X.
