Expectations of Ukrainians regarding the upcoming year, 2025, are somewhat worse than they were last year. This is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted by the group "Rating" in collaboration with Gallup International from December 2-5, 2024.
"Currently, 45% of Ukrainians anticipate that 2025 will be better than 2024, while another 27% expect a decline, and 20% believe it will remain the same. 8% are undecided about their expectations for 2025. Compared to last year, the assessments have shifted towards more pessimistic expectations. Last year, 51% had positive expectations (6% more than the previous year), while 17% had negative expectations (10% less than the previous year)," the report states.
It is also noted that the most optimistic group regarding their expectations is among those aged 65 and older: 54% of them have optimistic expectations for the coming year.
"On the other hand, the youth aged 18-24 predominantly do not expect changes—33% of them believe that 2025 will be the same as 2024. Expectations for the next year also depend on the financial situation of the respondents—the more affluent the respondents, the smaller the proportion of those expecting a decline in 2025," the survey results indicate.
At the same time, sociologists report that the overwhelming majority of respondents anticipate economic difficulties in the country in the new year. Economic hardships are expected by 63%, while only 13% expect economic prosperity. However, 20% believe that the economic situation will remain unchanged, and another 5% are unsure.
"Compared to last year, expectations regarding the economic situation in the country have also slightly deteriorated: last year, 17% of Ukrainians hoped for economic prosperity, 52% expected difficulties, and 29% did not anticipate any changes," the study reveals.
A total of 1,000 respondents aged 18 and older were surveyed across all regions except the temporarily occupied territories of Crimea and Donbas, as well as areas lacking Ukrainian mobile coverage at the time of the survey. The results were weighted using current data from the State Statistics Service of Ukraine. The sample is representative by age, gender, and type of settlement. Survey method: CATI (Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing). Based on a random sample of mobile phone numbers.
The margin of error for the study with a confidence level of 0.95 is no more than 3.1%.
Survey in Ukraine
Almost half of Ukrainians (45%) believe that Donald Trump's victory in the US elections brings the world closer to peace. However, among them, 15% think that peace is becoming significantly closer, while the remaining 30% say it is only slightly closer.
Conversely, 14% stated that the world is becoming more distant (5% noted significant distance, while 9% mentioned some distance). The remaining 40% either believe that nothing will change or could not decide on their opinion.
Only 7% are convinced that the world can be completely fair for Ukraine. Additionally, only 11% believe that the world will be entirely unjust for Ukraine.
