Zelensky hints at a potential condition for his resignation: a shift towards NATO membership.

Зеленский заявил о возможности своей отставки в обмен на вступление в НАТО.

President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he is prepared to resign if Ukraine is accepted into NATO and the war comes to an end. In that case, he would consider his mission accomplished.

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine, citing a broadcast of the interview with the head of state and British journalists.

In response to a question from a media representative, Zelensky remarked that changing the head of state would be a complex process.

"As for stepping down - replacing me will not be easy. It's not just about holding elections; you also have to prevent me from winning. So, it’s a bit more complicated. It turns out that negotiations would have to happen with me. And I said that I am trading for NATO, which means I have fulfilled my task. If NATO exists and the war is over, then I have completed my mission," the head of state said.

Zelensky also commented on the pressure from international partners who may try to influence Ukraine's decisions. The president criticized such approaches, adding that they contradict democratic principles.

"It seems that people are telling Ukrainians what kind of president they should have. Especially if these individuals hold official positions. Honestly, it looks unconstructive and undemocratic. Maybe this is a solution for everyone - for Putin and for all, if I'm not as flexible as they say. Well, yes, I am trading for NATO, I say it honestly," the president summarized.

Recall that yesterday, U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson stated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky "needs to come to his senses and return to the negotiating table with gratitude." Otherwise, "the country should be led by someone else". This statement came just a couple of days after a dispute arose between Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump regarding differing views on the situation in Ukraine.
